Rising Sun, Md – July 13th & 14th – The Annual tradition known simply as the “Uncle Buck” was concluded for its 26th year at Cecil County Dragway in Northeast Maryland in Mid-July.
Fresh off his victory only 7 days prior to the Cecil County event, recent NHRA New England Nationals Super Gas Champ Iggie Boicesco made it back to back wins as he took the hole shot victory over Sean Lang in the finals on Sunday presented by Melling Performance. Lang laid down a perfect 9.900 but, the advantage at the tree by Boicesco (.007 to .024) and his 9.905 was all that he needed for the victory on Day # 2. On Saturday, two drivers ended long winless streaks as Hank Smith (SG) & Jeff Livezey Jr. (SC) took home the victories in their respected classes. In an all Smith final, Hank took down recent winner George Smith in the final 9.899 to 9.891. Livezey Jr. took the win over New York’s Danny Bisbano 8.935 to a losing 8.960. Current points leader in Super Street Keith Mayer’s extended that lead with a victory in Race # 4 with a wire to wire victory over Jimmy Stack, Mayer’s then turned around and won the special W&T Pipeline Top 8 Shootout presented by POR15 a few hours later. Mayer’s took down 2016 Champ Martin Ganjoin in the finals there for the double up on Day 1. Other winners in the shootout included Frank Volpe Jr. who took his first shootout victory over a red-lighting Nick Olt in Super Gas and Dave Long went back to back in Super Comp when he defeated Kathy Smulligan 8.945 to 8.942.
On Sunday, Ganjoin would get revenge on Mayer’s with a victory in the semi-finals and then take the victory with a 21 thousandths package over first time finalist Frank Renda Jr’s S-10 Pickup truck. Rounding out the winners from the weekend, 2018 Super Comp Champ Don Bangs made a big point’s jump when Tom Slater lit the red bulb in the final, handing the win to Bangs.
