It’s only taken a short 2 months but, the final eight spots were solidified last weekend at Cecil County Dragway for the Inaugural Autometer Top 8 Shootout presented by S&W Race Cars, Nitroplate, Silfies Automotive, ATI & Mike’s Auto Service. A lucrative payday will await the winner of each class at day’s end in this free to enter / qualify on points field.
In Super Comp Andy Roberts from Rising Sun, Md became the lucky dog as the #8 wildcard qualifier and will have the honor of racing the #1 qualifier Joey Cambria from Shillington, Pa in 1st round competition. Another lucky dog was Amanda Boicesco who got the benefit of the doubt of an early retirement by Tom Boyle to sneak in to the #7 spot and race against Race #1 winner Don Bangs who qualified #2. Other match-ups include a battle of the young guns as recent winner Mac Dougherty comes from the #3 spot and takes on #6 Qualifier and Maple Grove LODRS Winner Chase Fahnestock and what is always an intriguing match-up in the 4 & 5 spot Dave Long takes on Jeff Livezey Jr.

Turning things over to the Super Gas category recent Cecil County runner-up Jerry Holcomb was chosen out of the lottery and will represent the #8 spot and will have the chance to take down #1 qualifier George Donhauser in 1st round action. Points leader Matt Schurman will make an appearance in the Shootout thanks to #4 qualifier Ron Orbin not being able to make the event that weekend. Schurman will take on Mickey Varner in a battle of the #4 & 5 spots. Other match-ups include #2 qualifier Iggie Boicesco taking on #7 Don Knoblick and #3 Bob Keister with his top-end stopping wagon taking on #6 Oscar Olt.

Switching gears to the 10.90 field Nick Mayo snuck into the #8 spot thanks to the lottery held after qualifying on Sunday. Mayo will take his Malibu up against the fast Nova of number #1 qualifier Lyn Haun in the 1st round. Another intriguing match-up comes to us in the #3 & #6 Match-up as points leader Kelli Barbato will take-on recent winner of Race #6 Martie Ganjoin. Other match-ups feature two of the hottest racers since MASSA was created in 2013 Champ Jimmy Stack taking on Race # 4 & 5 winner Jeff Fisher. Rounding out the 1st round action is the # 4 & 5 Match-up of Bernie Staub & Frank Quarno Jr. which should be a very good battle.

Remember racers beginning at Race #7 you will start earning points towards the 2015 Top 8 Shootout at a location TBD. We will also switch things up a little and run the event similar to the Jegs All-stars in which the winner of this event not only gets to take home the trophy but, gets the automatic birth into the 2015 event. We will have details to follow after this event is completed. So sit back, relax and enjoy the inaugural Autometer Top 8 Shootout!
