Reading, Pa – Lead by young gun Chase Fahnestock the Mid Atlantic .90 Association swept all three .90 categories at the recent Lucas Oil Divisional Event at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa. Fahnestock took down a list of MASCA regulars on the way to his first ever wally over the weekend. In the second round Fahnestock took down the most recent MASCA winner Johnny Smith with an 8.930. Next up was a battle of the young guns as he took on 18 year old Mac Dougherty. With a bye-run on the line Chase was behind on the tree (.003 to .009) but, played the top end perfect for a 8.944 to 8.966 victory. After his bye-run Fahnestock matched up with two of the veterans of MASCA and NHRA with Dave Long and Tom Boyle. The match-up in the 5th round was a tough one for Chase as Long strapped a .008 light on him but, pushed the top end a little too hard and broke out with an 8.896 sending Fahnestock to the semi’s. Who would be waiting for the young 22 year old? The man he beat at last years LODRS in the semi’s Tom Boyle. Boyle who was running in his final Super Comp Race was looking to go out on top but, Fahnestock had other plans. After a starting line advantage (.011 to .028) Chase took the stripe and victory with a 8.954 to Boyle’s 8.949. After being a runner-up at the 2012 Keystone Nationals and the 2013 Lucas Race, Fahnestock was ready to shed that bridesmaid dress at Maple Grove. In his way, the man who finished #2 in Division 1 in 2013 – Shawn Fricke. In the finals Fahnestock was not going to be denied and chopped down the tree with a .001 to Fricke’s .011 and then layed down a 8.904 for his first Wally to Shawn’s 8.911. Congrats to Chase, Joel & Crystal on a job well done!

In other action the man who finished second in MASSA points in 2013 Frank Quarno Jr. also took home his first ever wally with a victory over another MASSA Member Jason Lawrence. Both drivers layed down 10.90’s in the finals but, Quarno’s 10.904 took down Jason’s 10.908. MASSA was very well represented in the semi’s as member Neal Vacaro took his “Lightning Rod” Cutlass to a Semi-Final finish. To round out the action recent Atco MASGA winner and new member Pat Dehner took down Division 3 hitter TJ Coughlin in the finals. This was Pat’s first ever Wally and he is now the new Division 1 points leader going into Lebanon Valley.
