Winners Crown at Numidia Dragway’s Mid-Summer Shootout

Posted in Series News

The Mid Atlantic .90 Association traveled up to Numidia Dragway for the Mid-Summer Shootout on July 8 & 9th. A guaranteed $1,500 was up for grabs in all three .90 classes. On Saturday, round 1 was completed in Super Street before a downpour delayed Super Comp half-way through eliminations. Once the rain cleared and the track was dried the .90 gang got back to action. Once first round was completed, the dew point started to drop and the decision was to push the rest of eliminations to Sunday. With a lot of racing to do, the staff at Numidia & President Rob Keister teamed up to get it all completed by dusk.

Amanda Boicesco was looking to bounce back after a rough start to the 2017 and no better place then Numidia Dragway where the 21-year old college student earned her first Super Comp victory in 2013. Boicesco, found herself in the final yet again against D1 veteran Dave Long. At the hit both cars were practically even with Boicesco taking the lead (.021 to .027) and parlaying that into a 8.877 to 8.859 victory over Long. Joining her in the winner circle for the early race were 2015 D-1 Super Gas Champ Jon Pellicane and his new Corvette Roadster after he took down the T-Bird of recent Atco winner Marc Marsico. In Super Street 2013 MASSA Champ Jimmy Stack took down Mark Prioux who made the trip all the way down from Canada with his Ford.

Later in the day as the shadows were forming over the track the finals rolled up to the line for Race # 6. In Super Gas, long time campaigner Lance Kreiger was always the bridesmaid and was just looking for that first win in 9.90 competition. Driving the late Gary Lairds corvette roadster, Sunday July 9th will go down as a day that will live in the Dover, Pa’s resident mind forever. In the finals, Lance faced off with points leader Tom Goldman’s 58 Corvette. At the flash of the green Kreiger took a big starting line advantage (.014 to .040) and taking the stripe 9.906 to a losing 9.908. Joining Lance in the winner circle were 2015 MASCA Champion Ash Senft who stopped Amanada Boicesco from winning her second event of the weekend and in Super Street Dave Bergfeldt took down Saturday’s winner Jimmy Stack.
