Cecil County Dragway – Rising Sun, Md. – The Mid Atlantic .90 Association closed out its 2018 season with a bang at Cecil County Dragway in Northeast Maryland. With a 100% chance of rain on Sunday the weekend was shortened to a one-day event. In Super Street, 2018 NHRA Division 1 Champ Keith Mayers had a commanding 3 round lead over 2nd place Dom Burgese. All Mayers had to do was win one round and he would have clinched his 4th championship but, he was upset by Mario DiTeodoro III in round 1. That opened the door for Burgese to clinch his first championship with an event win. Burgese marched his way to the final and defeated a red-lighting Dave Bergfeldt in that final round to clinch his first championship.
In Super Gas, Medford, NJ Nick Olt claimed his first championship despite also being knocked out first round by Derek Clark after Al Owens & Frank Volpe went deep but, not deep enough to overcome Olt’s 3 round lead. In the final the red-hot Iggie Boicesco claimed his first victory in over 2 years by defeating Marc Marsico 9.919 to a losing 9.965. The final class of the weekend saw Don Bangs of Southampton, Pa claim his 2nd championship in Super Comp by running the table and winning the event. Bangs entered the race with a 1-point lead over 2nd place Kevin Scholl who lost early. The title was then clinched when Bill Hardifer went out in the 3rd round. Bangs then went on to defeat Danny “Mr. Happy” Bisbano in the final 8.905 to a losing 8.893. Thank you all for a great 2018 season! – Rob Keister
